Our bras work hard all day keeping us supported and comfortable. They deserve a bit of TLC. Always check your label in the first instance to get the most out of your lingerie and to maximise its lifespan. A lot of lingerie recommends handwashing.
I know, I know, ‘I don’t have time for that!’
It doesn’t have to be a long drawn out affair, I don’t expect you down at the river with your wash board out.
All you need to do is:
- fill a sink, basin or bath with water and a suitable detergent for handwashing delicates
- put your items in and make sure they are fully submerged so the detergent can do its jobs on the under band and straps
- once they have had a soak rinse in cold water, wrap in a towel to dab the water out then reshape and hang on a drier
That’s it, your done.
Most manufacturers recommend handwashing, especially if you have underwires as these can get twisted and broken in a machine. Again check your label to see the preferred method for your item.
If you are in a hurry and have to wash quickly then you can use a lingerie bag. Hook you bras and place them in your laundry bag using a gentle hand wash cycle. Remove as soon as the cycle is over, reshape and dry.
This shouldn’t be the normal as it can speed up the deterioration of the fibres that help keep you supported. Also if it is against the manufacturers recommendations then they will be unable to support you with an exchange if the wire breaks or pops out.
How often should I wash my bra?
There are lots of different ideas out there of how often they should be washed. It really comes down to what you do in it. Sweaty work out…….wash it. Everyday wear…….you can probably get 3-4 wears out of it before a wash. If possible you should give your bra a rest day between wears to allow the elastic a chance to regain its shape.
Do you need to see me with my bra off to be fitted?
No. I take the lead from you. Ideally I would like to see how your current bra fits to see what adjustments need to be made. I can measure over a thin t-shirt if this helps you feel more comfortable. Please be assured I am not looking at your ‘fatty bits’, ‘muffin tops’, ‘back fat’ or ‘mum tum’. I am just looking at how the bra fits. Making sure that everything is where it should be so that when you put your top back on you will feel better about all of the above as your clothes will be hanging better and giving you a better shape.
